Natalie Lau, Warwick's Master of Laws (LLM) graduate has recently mentored a team of female university students in JP Morgan’s 100 Women in Finance Investment Hackathon, which took place on 16 September 2023 in Hong Kong.
At the competition, Natalie guided and supported her team of female university students from various disciplines, by leveraging her expertise and knowledge in research and stock analysis to offer constructive criticism and identify areas for improvement. She provided advice and guidance to participants for the preparation of and structuring of their presentation content, developing their analytical skills, and refining their investment strategies. Natalie also shared industry insights and perspectives with the students, giving them a glimpse into the world of finance as a potential career path.
Participants in the hackathon were required to research and analyse three Hong Kong/China consumer discretionary stocks: BYD, China Resources Beer, and Trip.com. They then made a stock recommendation, specifying their confidence level with sizing options of 1%, 0.5%, or 0.25%. The culmination involved a four-minute panel presentation where teams presented their analysis and recommendations to judges from J.P. Morgan and 100 Women in Finance. Natalie’s team was awarded second place.
When asked about the achievements of her mentees, Natalie said:
“I’m feeling incredibly proud and honoured to have mentored an amazing team that emerged second place at the100WomenInFinance Investment Hackathon hosted by J.P. Morgan. Their dedication, teamwork and brilliant ideas showcased the power of women in finance. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to guide them towards success. Here's to smashing glass ceilings together!”
