Purpose:
Mochy will:
• Protect children and young people who receive its services from harm. This includes the children of adults who use our services.
• Provide employees, children and young people and their families, with the overarching principles that guide our approach to child protection.
This policy applies to anyone working on behalf of Mochy, including management, employees, volunteers and students. Failure to comply with the policy and related procedures will be addressed without delay and may ultimately result in dismissal / exclusion from the organisation.
Confidentiality and Data Sharing:
Mochy expects all employee to maintain confidentiality. Information and data should be shared with the local authority if a child is deemed to be at risk of harm or contact the police if they are in immediate danger, or a crime has been committed.
Recording and Record Keeping:
A written record must be kept about any concern regarding an adult with safeguarding needs. This must include details of the person involved, the nature of the concern and the actions taken, decision made and why they were made.
All records must be signed and dated. All records must be handled in accordance with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance.
Safe Recruitment, Training and Supervision:
Mochy is committed to safe employment and safe recruitment practices, that reduce the risk of harm to children from people unsuitable to work with them or have contact with them. When recruiting for a relevant role, the Mochy will take reasonable steps to be satisfied that any individual offered such a role is suitable to work closely with children and young people. Any individual who will be employed will be provided with an access to this policy and required to confirm that they have read and understand this policy.
Mochy will provide effective management for employees through supervision, support, training and quality assurance measures so that all employees and know about and follow this policy confidently and competently. While Mochy has a responsibility to ensure training and education is provided in accordance with this policy, all employees have an individual responsibility for accessing and participating in such training.
Photography, Internet and Social Media:
Class can be held in a public area. All media that is recorded by the public while children or young people are having a class in public is in the public domain, and not the responsibility of Mochy.
However, those who are bound by this policy, including those taking photographs or media for Mochy
use, must abide by the following media guidelines when taking, sharing or using photographs or media:
i) All photos and media of children and young people should be respectful, appropriate, relevant to the class, and not in any way disparaging or humiliating.
ii) Children and young people must be appropriately dressed when being photographed. It is never acceptable to capture any images in changing rooms, showers or at any time when children or young people are dressing. Images should be neither sexual, of an exploitative nature nor open to misinterpretation or misuse.
iii) It is inappropriate to photograph children or young people who are not your own, without explicit consent of the person with parental responsibilities.
iv) Should a child, young person or the parents of a child or young person wish to not have their photo taken or published, their wishes should be upheld where it is within Mochy’s ability to do so.
v) Adults must never send children or young people inappropriate or sexually provocative messages or images.
vi) Parents are encouraged to review their privacy settings on social media prior to posting pictures of children and young people, including their own.
Whistleblowing:
It is important that people within Mochy have the confidence to come forward to speak or act if they are unhappy with anything. Whistle blowing occurs when a person raises a concern about dangerous or illegal activity, or any wrong- doing within their organisation. This includes concerns about another employee.
If you have a concern or are approached by anyone about a suspicion or allegation of abuse, you should immediately report it. If you believe that a child or young person is in immediate danger you should call the police. In their absence Mochy should be informed at the earliest possible opportunity.
